Exemption Categories

Current as of season 2024/25

Category 1

Winners of the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit, from the conclusion of the 2020/21 season for the following five (5) seasons.

Category 2

Winners of the Australian Open, the Australian PGA Championship, and the NZ Open, for the remainder of the Official Season in which the Player’s win takes place and for the following three (3) Seasons.

Category 3

Winners of Official Season Tournaments - season of victory and the following two (2) seasons.

Category 4

Former Major Winners from Australia or New Zealand under the age of 60 on the opening round of the tournament concerned.

Category 5

Members ranked 2 – 30 from the Final PGA Tour Order of Merit of the previous PGA Tour of Australasia season.

The following members will be treated as “in addition” when determining the Top 30 members:

  • Temporary Tournament Member Tour

  • Full Member Vocational

  • Associate Professionals

Category 6

Players within the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings as at the close of entries for the relevant PGA Tour of Australasia Tournament.

Category 7

Exempt players from the co-Sanctioning/joint sanctioning partner for the tournament in question and/ or exempt players from the National/Regional body for the event in question (as agreed by PGA Tour of Australasia).

Category 8

This category is made up of the following:

  • Tournament Invitations (In accordance with policy for Tournament Invitations).

  • State Invitations

  • Elite Amateur Invitations

  • Pre-Qualifying Spots

Category 9

Winner of the most recent PGA Tour of Australasia Qualifying School (season of win only).

Category 10

Leading five (5) eligible Members (to a ceiling of the 20th eligible Member) from the PGA Tour of Australasia Career Money List as calculated at the conclusion of the previous PGA Tour of Australasia season. From the commencement of the 2020 PGA Tour of Australasia season, a Member is eligible to utilise the Career Money List Tournament Exemption Category twice in their career.

Category 11a

Members ranked 31-50 from the Final PGA Tour Order of Merit of the previous PGA Tour of Australasia season.

The following members will be treated as “in addition” when determining members ranked 31 - 50:

  • Temporary Tournament Member Tour

  • Full Member Vocational

  • Associate Professionals

Category 11b

The leading 3 players within the Top 50 positions off the current seasons Order of Merit, on the conclusion of the previous tournament, who are not otherwise exempt for a tournament. If a player in this category becomes exempt on their original ranking position after entries have closed, they will move to their ranking position, and their spot in this category will be filled by the next available player off the current seasons Order of Merit, who is within the top 50, is not otherwise exempt and who has entered the tournament. This category will not apply to the Australian PGA Championship, Australian Open or NZ Open.

Category 12

Winner of the Future Tour Final OOM earning points the equivalent or higher than 50th ranked player on the PGATA Final OOM from the previous season (Note – a player may utilize this category as an amateur)

Category 13

A re-rank of Categories 14 – 21 based on the PGA Tour of Australasia Order or Merit following the last PGA Tour of Australasia Tournament in the first half of the 2024/25 season*: The re-rank will apply to those members who:

  • hold a Tournament Exemption Category, and

  • are not otherwise exempt in a higher Tournament Exemption Category

(*the last tournament in the first half of the 2024/25 season will be notified to Members.)

NOTE: Those Members who have not earned any points during this period will remain in their initial 2024/25 Category position and will not be placed in Category 13)

Category 14

Players ranked 2 – 30 from the most recent PGA Tour of Australasia Qualifying School.

Category 15

Members ranked 51-70 from the Final PGA Tour Order of Merit of the previous PGA Tour of Australasia season The following members will be treated as “in addition” when determining members ranked 51 – 70:

  • Temporary Tournament Member Tour

  • Full Member Vocational

  • Associate Professionals

Category 16

Australasian Amateurs ranked within the Top 100 on the WAGR who turn professional during the 2024/2025 season (to a maximum of three (3) in any given season, followed by the second and third ranked player from the Future Tour Final OOM who earned points the equivalent or higher than 50th ranked player on the PGATA Final OOM from the previous season (Note - a player may utilize this category as an amateur)

Category 17

Any Full Member Tournament or Temporary Tournament Member – Tour who does not hold a Tournament Exemption Category who has in this season earned the equivalent or greater number of Order of Merit points as the 50th placed position in the previous season’s Final Order of Merit (which was 137.73 points)

Category 18

Leading 10 Members, to a ceiling of 20th position, not otherwise exempt from the 2023/24 PGA of Australia National Pro-Am Order of Merit

Category 19

Leading 3 players (not otherwise exempt in a higher category) entered for the Tournament in question from the from the Top 10 of the Final 2023 New Zealand PGA Order of Merit Should any players within this category re rank, then a maximum of 3 players only, who commenced the season in this category, will be eligible to play in any given tournament via the exemption categories

Category 20

Any current Full Member Tournament, not exempt in a higher category, having won an official PGA Tour of Australasia Tournament or an official tournament on a Tour recognized by the PGA of Australia since 1 January 2014. Category to be ranked by:

  • Total number of wins, then by Career Money

  • If one win, then by Career Money

Category 21

Leading 5 graduates (not otherwise exempt in a higher category) from the Final 2023 PGA of Australia Membership Pathway Program Playing Invite List (to a ceiling of 10th position) Should any players within this category re rank, then a maximum of 5 players only, who commenced the season in this category, will be eligible to play in any given tournament via the exemption categories

Category 22

Leading 5 PGA of Australia Associates entered for the Tournament in question from the most recent Membership Pathway Program Playing Invite list (to a ceiling of 20th position).

In 2024/25, Members will be required to play a minimum of four (4) PGA Tour of Australasia Tournaments to be eligible to remain on the Final 2024/25 PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit.
